Welcome to Seville. |
| Seville is one of Spain's most appreciated places abroad. Although it is acclaimed for its monumental heritage it had been a very important cultural centre for a long time. There is evidence that a very high culture was developed by the earliest settlers, who were Tartessians, a refined, peace-loving people, known to us from the accounts of Greek chroniclers and archaeological remains. |
| The fertile lands and pleasant climate (with mild winters and some 3000 hours of sunshine per year) attracted Phoenicians and Carthaginians to the area. Then came the Romans and romanised it, as they did a large part of Europe. Two of the Roman emperors, Traian and Hadrian, were born here. |
| Christopher Columbus set sail from the nearby port of Palos to discover the New World, as the legendary Don Juan set out from Seville to conquer the hearts of women. A further Sevillian, Merimée's Carmen, was not as resolute, being unable to make up her mind between the soldier Don José and the bullfighter Escamillo. |
| The book of Catholic saints also features illustrious Sevillians, such as Saint Isidoro and Saint Angela of the Cross. |
| And don't forget that when you visit this city, that you will find yourself at the very heart of the culture of Andalusia, the worldwide centre of bullfighting and flamenco. You can also enjoy Seville's excellent cuisine. |
| The best way to discover Seville is to immerse yourself in the charm of the city's neighbourhoods and quarters and visit its magnificent museums. A stroll through the streets of the city is a pleasure to be savoured, and all those who do so fall forever under the spell of this universal city. |

Seville, an open city. |
| Seville is an open, lively and friendly city intended for enjoying outdoor life. People say that Sevillians live in the street and this is true, to a certain extent, as you can "do things" throughout the day, all year round: stroll through the city streets, visit unrivalled monuments, museums and exhibitions, go to shows, etc. The warm welcome given to the visitors by the Sevillians makes Seville a convivial and friendly city. |

| We hope that you will integrate into and enjoy Sevillian lifestyle with Seville Card. |
