These are the very well conserved remnants of the 12th Century medieval walled city of Seville. The archway is all that remain of the gates used to gain entry to Seville, all of which were torn down in 1870 to allow the city to grow. On Good Friday at dawn, the procession passes through the streets of the neighbourhood, and upon its return, it passes through the archway creating one of the most picture post-card sights of Holy Week in Seville. Next to the archway, is a small monument that pays tribute to embroiderer Rodríguez Ojeda (the person who made a number of cloaks for the Virgins during the Seville Holy Week).
